How I chose the coaching path? My journey started a while ago…
A good friend of mine planted a seed in my mind, thinking I could do something else than business development. I have, one would say, a rather eclectic background… Sales, business development and headhunting, in various types of businesses, from water to corporate events, executive search to blinds, and from big corporation to start-up.
I have been going through my career led by opportunities coming my way. Yes, I am a lucky one!
In those various roles, I have learnt tremendously and met great people. And guess what? Meeting people, getting to know them and building relationships to help them was what was motivating me the most on a daily basis. I have lost count of how many times I have been told to focus on my revenue, that it was great I was helping people but I needed to bring that same energy on bringing revenue for myself.
What do I want?
Ultimately, I didn’t know what I wanted to do in my life. How did that manifest? Well, every two years or so, I would accept a new opportunity coming to me and because I didn’t have enough excuses to stay in the current business, I would move on. It would happen rather quickly and the decision was always straight forward for me to take.
After having spent a lot of my time travelling for work, working long hours, I was exhausted and I was unhappy… Something was missing! Everybody who knows me knows that I love travelling and doing that through work was something that very exciting for me. Not only mentally but physically too, my body was giving me signals that I could not ignore.
Time to wake-up!
I decided it was time for me to think, question and listen to myself, to figure out what I really wanted to do with my life. Looking back at my career, I felt I had been on auto-pilot mode. Time to wake-up!
I wrote down things that I love doing and skills that I have. I wanted to do something more meaningful to me, more fulfilling. This is when the idea of coaching grew further in my mind. I had always been fascinated by personal development and after researching and reading further, I found an organisation to train with.
Going through that path, what has also been very important for me has been to go through my own transformation with my coach. I had been wanting to go further in my personal development, to get more in touch with my emotions, to open up the range of possibilities and see how much I could stretch myself to grow.
Ah the great adventure of self-discovery! The good news is that it is just the beginning!
Since I have started that journey, coaching people has been bringing me joy. Being at service of people, challenging and supporting them is what makes me come alive like nothing else!
This is how I chose the coaching path. My job is to lift people up to realise their dreams… Best job ever!
And you, what do you want?
